The efficacy of antiretroviral drugs depends greatly on their combination. Different drug “cocktails” have been widely used and are largely effective in treating most cases of HIV infections. However the sequential use of these “cocktail” therapies has not been evaluated. A recent clinical trial study addressed the issue and concluded that the combination of zidovudine, lamivudine, and efavirenz is superior to combinations of other antiretroviral drugs when used as the initial therapeutic regimen.
